Monochrome

I'm afraid my scanner cropped off part of this painting on both sides, I did this on 11 x 15 size and my scanner bed is max 8 1/2 x 11 (standard copy paper size)... so it looks a bit odd. What I liked on this was the sparkle I got using dry brush on the water... and I liked the clouds (hard to see on the scan so trust me the clouds are good) I'm not happy with the house across the water, looks odd, and I do not like the dolphin reflections... they are too dark and not broken enough as they would be on wind blown water. You can't see it due to the cropping, but I was not happy with my attempts to add the overhanging tree branches... doesn't really look like anything. All in all it was an interesting exercise that I enjoyed doing.

  1. the sparkle on the water is lovely - I do like monotones, good exercise in tone, good colour to use for it too!

  2. It's beautiful Elaine! Sometimes it's hard not to be critical of our own work... but I think it's fantastic.

  3. Thanks Sharon and Pamo, this was an exercise in an online class I'm taking, and part of the assignment was to post it, listing what we liked and didn't like about it.... I don't usually publish what I think about my art... some of it I like a lot, some I HATE. I'm always pleasantly surprised when other people like something I've done.

  4. Oh- I get it about the negative comments! Duh. I seem to be sticking my foot in my mouth today.

I'm glad you don't normally rattle on about the negatives... I find it counterproductive and boring. I tune that stuff out when people post it on their blogs. That's why I was so surprised to see it here! And that's why I made the comment.
I see my foot is still in my mouth. Hm- tastes salty.
