#EDiM31 Eggs.  Final Every Day in May entry, this is the 3rd year I've participated in this challenge.  It is difficult some days to come up with something unique to draw when so many artists are using the same prompt for a page.  As always it is fun to see what everyone does with it.  For my mundane life today, I had to buy two tires for my car…ugg.  Excited to be able to pick a pepper and 4 tomatoes from our little garden for salads tonight for dinner.  I do love going in the back yard to pick vegetables for dinner.

#EDiM30 A bird feeder.  I don't actually have any bird feeders, so I found this one via Google images.  A very clever home made bird feeder, I may just make one.  Ron and I went on an all day ride with the LOH Charleston HOG club today, about 190 miles, so we are both pretty tired.  I going to feed the dogs early (I think they'll be ok with that) and go to bed.

Bike Trip Journal - LOH ride

Ron and I went on the LOH (Ladies of Honda/Harley) ride yesterday to Blackville SC.  We left around 8:30am and after visiting Cope SC and the Healing Springs, we had a fabulous lunch at the Miller Bread Basket restaurant in Blackville.  Nice crowd from the local Charleston HOG club and I didn't get too much ribbing for riding a Honda on a Harley ride.

#EDiM29 a Faucet (sort of).  My Savannah artist friend Debo, shared this picture with me way back in 2011, hard to believe it's been that long since we took a Brenda Swenson class at Cheap Joe's together.  So today I gave drawing it a go, the handle gave me fits but I think I got the gist of the rest of it.

#EDiM28 A yard ornament, I'm not sure this fountain turned into a plant stand counts, but I enjoyed sitting in the yard having a Sam Adams and sketching  while my husband cooked pork chops on the grill. I don't have any little statues around, and the only other decoration in my yard is a life like copper head snake coiled up next to the steps.  The snake has scared off a solicitor or two, and frightened my yard man the first time he saw it… but once he knew it wasn't real he delights in frightening his helpers every Summer by sending them to trim around the stairs where the snake is.  Everyone has a good laugh, I guess I should have drawn the snake, too late now as it is dark outside now.

#EDiM27 Something Fuzzy.  With the arrival of my new flute today, my fuzzy head joint tool had to be my fuzzy model today.  I tried to take a photo of it assembled but it is way too long and skinny.  It is a Yamaha, open hole, G offset, and a b foot joint, with a gold mouth plate… model 461-H… I really like the sound it makes, I'm going to have fun playing this one.

Title page - Book 32

This is my 32nd sketchbook, and with warm weather here to stay (I hope) a beach ball colored with my new Sakura gel pens.  The ink in these will run if you touch the colors while they are wet, fortunately once dry I was able to cover up the ugly bleeding.

May26Art

#EDiM26 A sign.  With the floods in Texas on the news, the sign of the rainbow was on my mind today.  I used watercolor pencils to color my rainbow, then wet them with a waterbrush.  This is the first page in a softcover Strathmore watercolor journal.  I'm not sure I'm going to like the soft cover, and in fact I was surprised when it arrived a mistake of my part when ordering it.  It should be ok for at home on a desk use, but not good on my lap outdoors I don't think.

May25Art - Memorial Day

#EDiM25 Something I wear during messy activities, I don't own an apron, and usually I just wear old clothes to do messy work.  I do have a pair of cotton gloves that I wear when I'm digging in the garden.  We spent a quiet day at home today,  I'm so thankful for all the men and women who put on the uniform and do their duty to protect this nation.  My father was on the beaches in France during WWII… such a handsome young man,  so grateful he made it home otherwise my brothers and I would not be here at all today.

#EDiM24 Keys, my Honda SilverWing key is on a separate key ring, with just a house key and my little stuffed shark on there.  Headed off to a picnic, followed by a reunion dinner tonight, I'm feeling like a party animal this weekend LOL.

#EDiM23 A building detail.  In Charleston only all the house downtown have a gas light by the front door, so I chose a gas light. Gorgeous weather today for the reunion picnic, wonderful BBQ and good friends to chat with.  Another picnic scheduled tomorrow… with a dinner party tomorrow night. A very busy weekend for us.

#EDiM22 Something on the wall,  besides lots of artwork that I've bought over the years and wouldn't even begin to attempt to copy any of them I chose my mirror.  Reunion picnic tomorrow, looking forward to seeing old friends we haven't seen in a while.

#EDiM21 Draw your favorite place to read.  I carry my iPad with me everywhere, and so I read wherever, whenever I have a moment of time.  Most of my eBooks are on the Nook, as I have an actual Nook that I no longer use. Recently, I've gotten a few (less than 5) books on the Kindle, so I downloaded that app too.  So these are my two favorite places to read.

#EDiM20 my wallet, from Fossil holds my drivers license and a few cards, I like that it is very compact and holds just the essential stuff.  Went to the hockey game tonight, Rays won in overtime 6 - 5, next game Friday here in Charleston if they win that game they will be the Eastern Conference Champions… fingers crossed.  They are playing great.

I'm planning to do Daisy Yellow's ICAD (Index card a Day) Challenge starting June 1st.  She's giving warm-up exercises.  This is my puzzle piece index card, I painted 4 cards different colors, put them in a pile and cut the pieces, then reassembled them gluing to a card.

This card was another warm up, circles made using a wine bottle cork as a stamp, and the little circles are the impression made by a golf ball used as a stamp… wait till my husband get a load of his golf ball LOL.

#EDiM19 A cupcake… believe it or not a friend of mine on Facebook, who sells monogramed purses, is offering a cupcake and champaign for party holders.  Well I looked up the champaign she posted in her 'ad' for this offer and discovered the recipe for champaign cupcakes made with the Cupcake vineyards wine.  Small world gathered today for me, because as a diabetic, I have no cupcakes at my house to draw… but these sound mighty fine… might want to give them a try folks. Click here for Champaign cupcakes recipes

#EDiM18 Draw a lipstick, this is another item added to my list of things I now wear everyday, sunscreen lipstick. Just 6 months ago, I would not have had a lipstick in the house to draw, skin cancer has indeed changed my life and my attitude.  I now also daily use mineral sunscreen recommended by my dermatologist, called Sunforgettable Broad Specturm 50 spf made by a company called ColoreScience.

May17Art

EDiM#17 While everyone else drew rulers, measuring cups and such, I went low tech artist measuring devise.  Holding my thumb on a pencil at arms length to measure and compare sizes and/or angles for a sketch. Which reminds me a new lesson should be on Sketchbook Skool, since last Friday.  I don't get email reminders for some reason, so sometimes I forget about it, until my friend Winna Jill posts her homework and then I remember.

Bike Trip Journal

I bought this cute travel journal at Barnes and Nobel a while back, so today I decided to use it to record our bike trips this year.  Adding maps, pictures, lessons learned… So here's the page for our trip to Myrtle Beach for Bike week 2015.  May I discovered today is Motorcycle Awareness Month in SC that's why the bike rally is in May.  I had no idea there was such a thing… learn something every day. One bad thing happened yesterday, I lost my name tag I'm really bummed about that.

#EDiM16 Ingredients of a favorite recipe… I'm not sure I HAVE a favorite recipe, but almost all of Ron's favorites (and he does most of the cooking) includes Jalapeños from hamburgers with chopped Jalapeños  to pepper sauce or chili beside onions, Jalapeños are included.

Ron and I left this morning at 9:30am with the Charleston HOG group, and rode to Myrtle Beach for the 2015 Spring Bike Fest.  Great route to Myrtle Beach, lovely shaded country roads all the way.  Ron and I came back home, not as part of the group, which gave me more opportunities for stopping :-)

EDiM#15 I bought these tiny clothes pins but I have no idea what to use them for, may be time to toss them out.  Busy day today, went to watch the hockey game tonight with friends at a local grill and bar called Southside 17, the Stingrays won 2 -1 against the Toledo Walleyes in Ohio.  They play there again tomorrow then back to Charleston next Wednesday.  The is the conference final, if they win this round they'll go to the final round for the Kelly Cup.

#EDiM14 Something I use everyday, boy that was a wide open choice starting with my alarm clock, my coffee maker, my toothbrush… and the list goes on and on.  I settled on my faithful Lamy Joy, even if I don't use it to draw, I use it to write notes and take it with them everywhere.  It is my favorite pen and the only one I use every day.

We needed a can of beans, and some ground beef to make chili for dinner tonight.  Ron makes a mean batch of chili, over rice it makes for a wonderful filling dinner.  So the last thing I bought was a can of chili beans.

These are not my steps, but the steps on a house in downtown Charleston, that caught my eye.  Got a package from Jet Pens today, with some nibs and new Micron pens as all my stash of pens were all used up.  I'd seen quite a few videos about 'G' nibs so I got some… tried it out a bit today.  As usual with nibs it is a bit scratchy right now, you have to use a nib for a while for it to wear down and adapt to your writing style.

After having skin cancer surgery, I've gotten serious about sun screen and wearing a hat.  I got this really long billed baseball hat, it has a neck guard that attaches by velcro.  I don't use that much, but for drawing outside this Summer it will come in handy.  I like my wide brim straw hat too, but the baseball hat was at hand today, so used it as a model for #EDiM11 a hat.

Many, many items to choose from when the prompt is something you can turn on and off.  I love my little orange led flashlight, so I drew it and colored it with colored pencils.  Other than grocery shopping, spent a quiet day at home today.

Thinking the word should have been thinking, not thinging… oh well, not the first time I've messed up a word, won't be the last.  Today and interesting label, I'm afraid I wimped out and picked one I was capable of drawing, still and interesting graphic of the duck on the label, I had to make the bottle fatter to fit the name in and my favorite Schmincke orange for a background.

We bought some new handles for the kitchen cabinets a while back, still haven't gotten around to painting the doors and installing the new handles.  So I used the  handles to draw today's challenge. Spent most of the day in bed, Ron went to the hockey game, I'm planning to listen from the bedroom.

I have so many wonderful hand decorated envelopes from my participation in the SBS(Sketchbook Skool) card exchange that I participate in on Facebook.  I picked out three to draw for this EDiM 7 draw an envelope.  I spent most of the day at the oral surgeons office this morning and then in bed taking pain meds in the afternoon.  I'm heading back to bed shortly, as sitting up is making it hurt again.

#EDiM6 Something with bristles, a bristle hair brush, an old one I've had for years, it is a favorite for painting grass and tree foliage.  We went to the hockey game tonight, but had to come home after the 2nd overtime period, because I needed to take my pre-op drugs before midnight.  We're listening to the game, as it continues and Florida just scored.  So we play again on Friday.

#EDiM5 Something HOT, well on Cinco De Mayo… what else except a Habaneros pepper fills the bill?  We're growing habaneros again this year, but all we have right now is flowers on the plants, peppers in about 3 or 4 weeks.  Store bought peppers will have to do until ours come in.  Off to another playoff hockey game, this time against Florida.

#EDiM04 Spice jars, so I grabbed a few of different sizes and colors, put the on my desk and did my usual wonky ellipses.  Had a good flute lesson tonight, the teacher and I played together, haven't done that before.  It went surprisingly well, I only have 1 more lesson with Kristie, then she is moving to Newberry.  I'll miss our weekly lessons, she's been a great teacher.

May03Art

If I remember correctly, curtains were on the list last year, and just like then I had to find a photo on the internet to draw a curtain.  We don't have curtains, just blinds and shades as totally blocking the sun from the house is important in Charleston.  We went on a little ride out to the Sewee Outpost on Hwy17, the fellow who sells fresh vegetables was just packing up when we got there but we did manage to buy some squash and cucumbers from him. We took the Trike today, because Ron's other bike is in the shop for a check-up.  It was very relaxing to sit back and just enjoy the scenery.

May02Art

Today a tree, here in SC the Palmetto is everywhere, including the state flag.  Ron and I went to Columbia today for the State Convention, speakers included Ted Cruz (very impressed with this man) and Rick Perry (gave rousing speech). We had video speeches from Carlie Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.  Unimpressive in person were Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham.  I have seen Rick Santorum on many occasions, and he was not his usual self today, not sure why but he was lacked energy today.
Back home to Charleston, we met with friends at Southside 17 to watch the Stingsrays defeat the Florida Everblades 4 - 2.  Time to call it a day.

I actually made a long, very long list of my favorite foods, I did not get this size by not loving food. Unfortunately, none of the foods on my list were available as models except number 11 green olives. A bit of artistic license and my olives have leaves, I drew the olives with a fine tipped sharpie pen, added color with colored pencils.  I used watercolor on the EDIM#1 label.
