Dec31Art

The rest of the gear in my Maxpedition pouch, this tall side holds more pens, pencils, water brushes, rulers, a little plastic bag with instant towels along with refills for my two brush pens.  I didn't draw it all, ran out of time and space.  So here's the final palette I carry three, you'll notice that some of them contain the same colors,  if I run out in one box I have another box with the same colors.  Nutty I know, but that's the way it is.  This box contains full size pans and I use it when I'm using real brushes and doing big washes, it has 2 half pans for Raw Sienna and Buff Titanium.  That's my everyday art supplies, carry them everywhere.
Headed out to the hockey game, stay safe if you're out tonight, don't drive drunk, call a cab or Uber, or stay at home and toast the new year in the safety of your own home.  That's what Ron and I will do.

I'm revisiting Liz Steel's Foundations Online class, so I decided to draw some of my sketch kit.  I have a small zip pencil case that has an elastic strap and fits around my sketchbook.  In it are these 4 pens, along with one waterbrush and a business card sized palette of colors.   I have a larger Maxpedition pouch with more supplies that I take with me sometimes,  so in the next few days I'll be sketching the rest of my sketch kits.

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.   And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David)  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Fear not…. fear not… for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy…

Have you ever thought about the angels that appeared to the shepherds in the field.  Have you ever wondered why the first thing the angel said was "FEAR NOT".... makes you wonder what that angel looked like doesn't it, and that the angel knew that they would be afraid at the sight... so the angel's first words, 'Fear not, for I bring you good tidings of great joy'...

Shortest day of the year and the first day of Winter,  after today the sun will shine just a little bit more each day up until June 21st.  I used a silver and gold paint pen on my star, which looks pretty good in person, but didn't scan very well.  I got some bamboo pens for the up coming online, Drawing a Day Klass.  I'm looking at these things and I'm not sure how they work,  be interesting to find out how to use them in klass.

Wonky Ginger bread man,  drawn with a brush may be the reason he's so wonky.  Great hockey game tonight Rays won 6 - 3 over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.  Our friends at the hockey game gifted me with a cool bandanna for riding, and Ron a Santa on a motorcycle ornament.  Due to out love of popcorn at the games, sweet Lisa got us an assortment of flavored popcorn.  We are so blessed to have such great friends.

When I was a little girl, I briefly took ballet lessons and was in the Nutcracker too.  I don't remember much about it, except that I finally complained about hating ballet enough that my mother decided the lessons were a waste of money and let me quit.  So today some scary nutcrackers for your enjoyment.

Red, white and blue Christmas scenes.  No snow, in fact not even the least bit chilly today in Charleston.  Yesterday, I thought winter might be here, today a gorgeous blue sky and great weather for the Wreaths Across America ride this morning.  We couldn't make it this year, maybe next year.

Another poinsettia, this time drawn in ink, and colored with colored pencils.  I must admit I prefer watercolor, it is a much faster way of adding color.  My German friend Bernhard told me they call this a 'Christ-rose', I like that name.

How about a Christmas elf today...  beautiful blue skies today, chilly tonight.  Ordered some art supplies today for an upcoming class in January, they should be here in time to play with them over Christmas holiday.

Gray ugly day today, didn't rain until after dark.  We had dinner at Panera Bread, haven't been there in a while.  Ran into old friends from the Low Country Agility club there for a training committee meeting, bless their hearts they invited us to join them, but we declined haven't trained any dogs in years and years now.  I'm a lifetime member of the club though, an honor they bestowed on me a few years ago.

These were supposed to be poinsettias, just in case you couldn't tell what they were. The green leaves got carried away... couldn't help themselves.

Quiet day today, went to O'Charlie's for lunch after 1pm and discovered they were just doing breakfast menu?  O'Charlie's used to be our favorite place for a steak, their rib-eye's were fabulous.  A couple of months ago they dropped rib-eye from the menu, now they no longer do a lunch menu.   Don't know what the management at O'Charlie's is thinking but they've lost 2 loyal customers.

Needless to say I didn't sleep well last night, didn't post because our internet was down last night.  Got up early, got the dogs situated and packed up some things for Ron, and went to the hospital.  Ron had an MRI and a sonar-gram of the arteries in his neck, and then we waited for the results.  It was a 'mini-stroke', most likely brought on by either high blood pressure or his high blood sugar numbers.  He got some new drugs and a referral to an Endocrinologist.  We're home now and very thankful that this was just a warning and not as bad as it could have been.

What a night this was, Ron had a headache and so called in sick to work, and didn't feel well enough to go to the hockey game.  I went to the game, to throw the bears, the Salvation Army gives the toys to kids that don't have much for Christmas.  When I got home, Ron was slurring his speech and stumbling... I asked him if he'd been drinking, he said no... I said well then get dressed you're going to the Emergency Room.  They did a CT scan and some other tests and decided to keep him overnight and to do more tests on Saturday....

Dec07Art - 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

A day that will live in infamy,  a pivotal day in the history of the United States and the world.  Certainly, an event my father, wanted to make sure his children remembered... and I do, watching the documentaries today still bring tears to my eyes, especially watching the old men who are still alive who survived the attack.

Found out today, that Ipernity.com the site I use to store all my scanned artwork and photos is going to close down the end of January.  I looked at 'smugmug' today, it isn't exactly what I need but it might work for me.  Google photos and 500px are the other options I'm looking at.  Does anyone have a favorite they'd recommend?

Dec01Art

As in years past, December 1 thru 25 will be all Christmas every day. Thought I'd give a Santa Hat a try.  I signed up for yet another online drawing class with Danny Gregory's  Sketchbook Skool,  I really enjoy them, and once I retire I plan to watch them all again.

I drink my one cup of coffee a day from a china tea cup, I like it because it loses heat very quickly.  I don't like super hot coffee, and I also drink tea from this cup in the Winter.

Tonight I tried to combine two creative things at the same time, watching Jennifer Edwards Kitterly Arts Video Podcast and doing a drawing in my sketchbook.  Jennifer Edwards is a beautiful woman, with peaches and creme skin, she is not jaundiced as my painting of her might indicate sigh.  I enjoy her podcasts because like me she loves to knit and also draws,  I've followed her blog for years and it is so cool to finally hear her sweet voice. Check her out at https://knitterlyarts.wordpress.com/

Busy weekend, Ron and I spent Friday morning at the doctor's office (along with lots of sick people) we just needed refills on prescriptions.  Afterwards, we took the motorcycles out to Folly Beach, had dinner out there, at a little place called Island Grill, fresh shrimp so good.

Saturday we shopped till we dropped for our angel tree boy, and I got myself some new boots.  Went to a hockey game Saturday night after 2 periods with no scoring on either side, the Rays scored 5 goals in the 3rd period to win the game 5 to 1.

Today we participated in the 39th annual Abate Toy Run to benefit the Salvation Army.  I found these two patches to add to my biker vest.

Yesterday was our 13th Anniversary,  I met the love of my life late in life, but I'm so thankful for him every day.

I didn't know what day it was this morning, when I filled out the weather and date on my page today.  As soon as I finished writing Tuesday, I knew I'd made an error, and the Chicago song came to mind.  That song has been bouncing around in my head all day long.  Plucked a couple of leaves off the crepe myrtle to color today.

Late night popcorn, I must admit I ate it out of the microwave bag and didn't draw it until after it was all gone, so this is what I imagine popcorn looks like in a red striped bag.  I don't buy 'butter flavored' popcorn, I add actual butter after I pop it, so wonderfully good.

My palette of gouache was dried out and cracked, but adding water brought it back to life.  I need to practice more with it, getting the paint to blend on the paper is very different from regular watercolor.  He was fun to do and I think the paper held up very well.  Besides being smoother than I'm used to, it also seems to have quite a lot of sizing on it.  Maybe I'll try a two page spread tomorrow.
