Main Stream Media, obsessed with finding fault with President Trump and his wife Melania, focused on her high heeled shoes today.  Turns out she changed shoes on AirForce One and had tennis shoes on exiting the plane.  Politics has been ugly lately, but this was down right SILLY.

I bought an online colored pencil class from Art Tutor, the homework was to color a pear on Strathmore Toned Gray paper.  So here's my pear, based on what I learned in the first class.

Rode out to Edisto Beach for lunch today, very windy and a few sprinkles otherwise perfect riding weather, cool and comfortable.  We ate at the Waterfront, on Jungle road, our favorite place to eat on the beach.  Stopped by the Low Country Harley shop on the way home, Ron got some LED tail lights for his FLOSS and I got a seat cover for my trike.  Now I can cover my seat without having to use my rain jacket to keep the water off my seat.

Lazy Saturday, didn't do much of anything.  Went for BBQ for lunch which I had a craving for.  Dinner we tried out an interesting restaurant in Mount Pleasant called Dough Re Mi... I had the Manicotti, Ron had a Peppers, sausage and onions sub... we both were pleased.

Two weeks in a row, instead of green olives in my Calzone, I got black olives or I got green peppers.  The second week the manager recognized me and we discussed the issue with the chefs not reading the order, because in both cases the waiter had entered the order correctly.  This weekend going to Edisto Island on Sunday, so no Calzone this weekend.

I had to give drawing the man from Sktchy another try.  On the left the blind contour drawing yesterday on the right the drawing looking at the paper.  Sort of looks like him, I drew his nose too short.  I used the circular drawing method, started in the center and worked my way out and around.

Lapin class this week, a blind contour face.  I used the Sktchy app to find someone to draw.  I may try to draw the face tomorrow... as this sort of drawing is abstract by design.  Used some Prussian Blue paint with my size 16 Mop to make some marks on the page too.

Watched Sketchbook Skool 'Draw tip Tuesday' video, today.  Sketching an apple with colored pencil,  so I had to give it a try.  I have colored pencils and I use them mostly on my little weather forecasts.  Shading and using them is something I do very often,  I'm usually too lazy to spend so much time putting down layer after layer of color.

I wasn't able to get a good photo, as it was cloudy, but we did get to see the total eclipse today.  It was amazing,  this is the second one I've seen, I saw one in 1970 too, unless I travel great distances, this will be the last one I ever see.

Aug19-20Art

Full weekend, rode to Georgetown on Saturday, met with Ron's brother and his wife for dinner Saturday night.  Sunday Mellow Mushroom for lunch then shopping at Wally World, rode up to Summerville for dinner at the Carolina Ale house... next thing you know it's time for bed and eclipse tomorrow.

Paint blob doodles,  for these, I painted the circle of color, then sprayed clean water in the center of each blob... then tipped the sketchbook up to create the drips... the orange one, did a double drip... When dry I doodled in the flower petals and leaves.  Fun stuff.

Wow, two days in a row, where rain was predicted but it didn't actually rain at my house.  Decided to draw one of my palette knives tonight,  I only have two.  As a watercolor painter I rarely use palette knives for painting (it's an oil painter thing I think).  I have used them to scrape on a watercolor painting, and probably sinfully used them as letter openers.

Day isn't over, but it hasn't rained here all day today... yippee!  Just fooled around with a tooth brush to spatter paint, blocking off an area for a quote today.

Rained most of the day today... sigh.  My flowers are loving the rain, I'm about tired of it.  Forecast for the rest of the week, is rain every day this week... ugh.

Put some ink tense pencils color down, then used a uni-ball signo white gel pen for the doodles.   It was NOT supposed to rain today, my morning forecast predicted NO rain today,  so it rained on and off all day long.. sigh.  We were going to ride up to Moncks Corner this afternoon, but as we headed that way, dark sky ahead made us cut it short and loop through Summerville instead.  We managed to get home without getting wet.

We managed to get a short ride in today, before the thunderstorms hit.  Tried to go to Mellow Mushroom, but it was packed and had a long wait, so we went down to Parson Jack's in West Ashley.  I had the 10" pizza Ron had a Philly Cheese Steak.

Watercolor paint blob birds,  some very shaky long legs.  Finally, enough sun today to manage to get the yard cut.  Took the car to Columbia and ran thru heavy fog in Orangeburg this morning, and rain coming home,  but it cleared up this afternoon, and so far hasn't rained tonight.
TRIGGER WARNING... skip the rest if politics upsets you.
I was in elementary school during the Cuban missile crisis in the 60s, now we're having another missile crisis.  I'm not too worried about it, but I imagine the folks in South Korea and Guam are worried sick about what the crazy man in North Korea might do.  Democrats are worried what our crazy President might do (I think perhaps the North Koreans should be very worried about it).

I did this small colorful lizard in my sketchbook, hopefully my friend Melissa who hates lizards won't find it too offensive.  We have quite a few plain green lizards in our yard and garden,  I like them, they eat mosquitos and other bugs.

Rain, rain go away, come again another day... PLEASE.  I don't know how much more water we can take around here, before people are using kayaks in the streets downtown.

This page was painted first then ink, backwards to the usual way I do things.  Trying some different things,  it is easy to get in a rut and start furnishing it, laying down carpet and getting really comfortable in that rut.

This mixed media paper, doesn't work like watercolor paper, so I'm struggling with it a bit.  I'm enjoying the portrait format, wish the gutter didn't produce such a shadow on my scanner.

My friend Celeste shared an article about warming up, by filling a page with dots of color from your palette. Sounded perfect for me today... so dots of color with my mop brush.  Below a link to a little video of part of our ride today.

A bit of rain, a bit of sun,  tax free weekend, so shopping for Ron a new printer and I found the cutest Shark pencil case.  We went to Gilligan's for some seafood tonight,  very good as usual.

Raining this morning, so I took the Smart Car to Columbia today.  Great lunch at Chili's (our favorite place for lunch on Fridays).  Used my multi-colored pencil to draw my wine glass... pretty wonky drawing, perhaps too much wine before drawing, or was it not enough wine?

Meant to add... "I'm not Fat, I'm fluffy"  to this page...  but scanned it before I wrote that... thunderstorm woke me and Gracie up at 4:30am today, cloudy all day but no more rain.  Headed to Columbia tomorrow morning... may need to take the car instead of the motorcycle... sigh.

More brush marking, using my inch flat brush with yellow on one side and orange on the other.  The orange over took the yellow so less orange, more yellow to get that half in half look I was hoping for.

Practicing making marks with different paint brushes.  This one was an Escoda Travel brush size 12,  it has some crimped hairs, which most of my travel brushes end up with, because I can't get the cap back on without bending some of the hairs back.
