Beautiful bird on a wire this morning... must admit I looked up a picture of one on the internet to be able to draw her.
Beautiful day today, last day of September, next month will be busy. I'm looking forward to a week in Boone NC for a Brenda Swenson workshop, hockey starts the weekend after the workshop and my art class at the school starts the Friday after that.

I consider myself a dog person, but thanks to my daughter I have cats too. I don't have a calico cat now, but I do think they are cool looking cats... All of the animals in this house are shedding now, cats, dogs, and even the birds... my poor vacuum cleaner is doing the best it can to keep the hair at an acceptable level. The dust bunnies are chocking on the hair.

We had Church's Chicken for dinner... so I did some easy chicks. Got my Butt roll tonight, and three boxes of stuff from Dick Blick, ready for some fun now.
I've made some great friends in the last couple of years here in Charleston, but it takes a long time to nurture old friends, like my friend Carol.

These rolls are considered 'waste' and are 're-pulped' to make more paper... the public relations group at the mill will give the rolls to community groups... and my little art class qualified. One of these rolls can weigh 75 to 100 pounds and be enough paper for lots and lots of kid art so I am very grateful for this paper.

Finished the last of the tiles, and turned them over to the person who will add the cork to the back of them. I have to paint a birthday card tomorrow and get it in the mail... except I haven't an idea in my head what to paint.

I like the flavor but not the texture, so I'll finely chop them in sauces but I won't eat them raw at all. Ron on the other hand loves onions, cooked, raw, red, sweet, yellow, white... he loves them all.
Big shopping day at Wal*Mart today, stocking up on paper products, coffee, bacon, sausage, eggs, and soup.. grand total over $200... YIKES!

Watching college football today... so far Georgia Tech won... Clemson won, watching SC Gamecocks now.  Raining HARD this afternoon, hasn't rained that hard in a very long time.

Sep23Art

Found out I'll be working with the Kindergarten and first graders, so much younger than I thought. Should be a LOT of fun, because little kids have no fear and no inner critic to deal with. I ordered finger paints, watercolors, crayons, and washable markers. I'm crawling the internet for ideas ... class will be once a week and start the Friday I get back from the Brenda Swenson workshop in Boone, NC.

Book 14 - Title page Pumpkin

Starting this new journal on the first day of Fall 2011, might be enough pages to make it thru December if I don't do too many 2 page spreads, but I'm starting to like doing those... besides I have a cool Fabriano sketchbook to use for book 15 and I'm looking forward to that.

Last day of Summer, and I'm ending this sketchbook here, since I don't have enough pages to make it to the end of the month.
Got to see a Doe and her fawn come out of the woods onto the lawn at work as I was leaving today... so magical to see a wild animal in the city... they both looked fat and healthy. The fawn was jumping and running around Mom in circles... made my day seeing them.

I've been driving the car to work for the last few day, since my foot still hurts. I'm better but it still hurts to walk on it.

At the birthday party last night, whoever decorated the tables used a 'beach' theme with sea shells and sand and on each table a little fish bowl, inside the bowls, real fish, a little card on the table, said please take me home. I don't know how many people took them up on it, and took the little goldfish home. We have enough pets in this house and don't need any more.

Forty Six years ago a single mom gave birth to a 10 pound 6 ounce black baby boy. Today that young man is our beloved Congressman Tim Scott, at his birthday party tonight he hugged and thanked his Mom for raising him to be the man he is today. It was a great party... I'm glad my foot improved enough today for me to be able to attend.

My toe started bothering me Friday, kept me up all night last night. So this morning we went to see Dr. Marino, blood test confirmed Gout, got a steroid shot, and pills to take. Still hurts like the devil, can't stand to even wear a shoe much less walk on it. To add insult to injury Ron went to the drug store to pick up my drugs and the battery in my car died. He had to walk home to get his car, to go get a new battery for my car. Glad it went out now, with a trip to NC planned in a couple of weeks, and one to Greenville at the end of the month. I'm lucky Ron knows how to deal with car issues.

Went to see Herman Cain today on Daniel Island at Congressman Tim Scott's town hall meeting.  Herman was very well received by the crowd, he has a plan to put this county back on track toward freedom and prosperity.  The liberal media has ignored Mr. Cain, but hopefully the voters will pay attention to what this man has to say.

Just got in from seeing the 'Spirit of America' show. It was a great show, very inspiring if the show comes to your town, go see it.

The light and chain on the ceiling fan, since it is on it was not possible for me to draw the blades. Winston Churchill was a great man, where are the great men now?

Ok I've been sitting here for 45 minutes and can't think of a thing to say... so... I guess I don't have anything to add... found a couple of quotes to add to my page. Very tired today... need to get some sleep tonight.

Dogs... I'm a big dog lover, always have been.  The boys are giving us fits right now, Gracie is in season and they are all in lust for her... but since they are all either her half brothers or her Dad, none of the boys in this house will be allowed to court Gracie... they are deeply upset about this and complain about it day and night LOL

Coaster/Tiles for Sea Island

Here are some examples of the tiles I painted.  Someone else is going to apply cork to the back for these to be used as coasters.  I used the Pebeo paints along with one of their paint markers.  Then the tiles are baked in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 mins.  Supposed to be dish washer safe afterwards.

Flying the American flag today, and remembering that morning 10 years ago, and how it changed our lives forever.

Breakfast at Kelley's Bar-B-Q followed by a trip to the gun show at the fair grounds. I got a canteen, with a metal cup (for painting outings), it came in a pouch I can attach to my belt. Ron bought some brass for his WWII Garand rifle. Stopped by Total Wine store and bought some wine glasses that I'm going to try my glass paint on... uh, the paint runs... yikes, had to lay the glasses on my mesh sweater drying rack in the guest bathtub. Tomorrow I'll see if the glasses can stand up to 300 degree heat to set the paint. I've got my fingers crossed because I think they look pretty good.

Lewis Grizzard was a humorist from Moreland Ga. He wrote a newspaper column in the Atlanta Journal I was a big fan. I googled him and found some of his quotes still out there on the internet. Maybe someday my grandkids will find his books and enjoy reading them.

Really cool this morning, had to wear a jacket and real shoes, not flip flops... I got the cork top perspective all wrong on this jar. Found this years ago at the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park, girl friends used to take the day off on Friday and go to the festival and spend the day shopping there.

Weather man said it would rain, and when we left the house this morning, it looked like rain... but it didn't rain, in fact it turned out to be a gorgeous day, nice breeze as the tide came in over the marsh.  We got to see a dolphin feeding in the marsh, lots of egrets and a couple of blue herons.  My tiles were a hit, so I'll be making more of them as quickly as I can.  Ron and I grilled out for dinner here at home, it was a good holiday.

I painted 55 color cards today, I still need to do 9 more greens, and a few misc colors like 'coastal fog'... then I'll have a card for every tube of paint I own. I was an interesting exercise, I try to photograph them when I finish them. Drew my handy vise grips that I use to open stuck paint tubes.

Senator Rick Santorum spoke at the Berkley County American Legion breakfast this morning. He was very inspiring, and most people were pleased with what he had to say... except the Fair Tax folks, if you're not 100% for the Fair Tax they are not going to like you. I don't know why the Senator isn't doing better in the polls, he has a great message.

Congressman Tim Scott told us last night about a private school in Charleston, that is having great success with 'at risk' children. The parents are required to work at the school to pay part of their tuition, as well as to make sure the kids do their homework. The school feeds the kids, Breakfast, lunch and dinner, and sends them home with food for the weekends, because hungry children can't study. They have after school program for the kids as well ... they have been very successful, with the kids testing in the top 10% in reading, math and science in the state. I talked with my husband about it, and I'm going to volunteer to teach an art class at the school in the afternoons. I don't know if they will accept me or not, but I hope they do... then again, I'm scared that I don't really know how to deal with a room full of kids.. but I'm willing to try.

Got a box from Cheap Joe's today, full of the paint I ordered for my tiles... inside was this cute weather station card... very cute idea... thanks Joe Miller for making doing business with you a pleasure.
Had a meeting tonight in Goose Creek, we had a comedian talk to us ... he was really funny I enjoyed him. Then our Congressman Tim Scott got serious and told us about his trip to Israel and how inspired he was by meeting the people there, he came home spiritually renewed and inspired... I feel really blessed to have a man of such character as my Congressman.
