The year of the dragon... Chinese dragons are strong and considered good luck.... Western culture has a different outlook on dragons. Interesting that people the world over have dragons in their lore. Could ancient people perhaps have discovered dinosaur bones and assumed the fearsome beasts were alive somewhere? I wonder....

Well I thought I could fit the egret on a single page... should have done it across the spread... beak is too short and not enough room for his legs... oh well lesson learned.

Rays won again today, in an overtime shootout against Elmira New York. Turned COLD while we were at the game... gosh it's almost like it is Winter or something LOL

Very exciting hockey game tonight. Big crowd for their 'pack the house' night, which I think made it even more exciting (and difficult... long lines for food and the potty). It was a picture perfect day today, not a cloud in the sky... I'm really enjoying this warm spell.

The kids drew and/or colored a dancing woman after Bernard Hoyes, the Jamaican artist who does such colorful paintings of women.
Hockey tonight...

Another sunny and warm day today... supposed to rain tomorrow...
We went to Handcock's Fabrics but the local store didn't have what I wanted... on the website but not in the store... argh... Now I have to order it and pay shipping... I'm more than a little annoyed about it.

I was born in Atlanta Georgia, just down the street from the drug store where Coca-cola was invented.  I was raised drinking coke with  my dinner, and coke and soda crackers if I was sick.  When I was a kid everyone called them CO Cola's nobody called them Cokes back then.  I had an aunt that was very rich, she worked for Coke for 40 years and retired with lots of Coke stock.  My grand mother used to tell the story of the man coming to the door during the depression selling Coke stock for $.25 a share.. she didn't have a quarter so she didn't buy any... she always lamented not being able to buy that stock saying she'd be a rich woman if she had.  Before moving to South Carolina I worked at Coca-Cola for 5 years, it is a GREAT place to work.  Today I drew the top of my Coke Zero can... I LOVE Coca-Cola always have, always will.

Nice warm day today, rode the scooter to work.  I don't know how long this weather will last... but I'm going to enjoy it while it does.

Sea Island meeting tonight went well, great dinner and interesting speakers. Peace has come to SC now... no more robo calls, mailbox isn't full of political stuff and the spam emails to vote for this one or that... they've all descended on Florida now... It's up the the Sunshine state now... good luck guys... don't listen to the media, listen to you heart and vote for the man you think is best.

Attended a lovely memorial service for a Jeep buddy and retired Submarine sailor... we'll miss Steve Berry very much.  Young Navy sailors performed a shooting salute, played taps, and presented his wife Carolyn with the flag.
Fair winds and following seas my friend.

Just home from the hockey game to find out our guy won, got to hear a bit of his victory speech. I'm disappointed for Rick Santorum, I really thought he'd do better as I know almost as many Santorum supporters as Newt supporters and I thought it would be closer between them.

Colorado Sunset

This is my very first Pastel painting, using PanPastels. It is on MiTienes paper size 11x14 I did this for a Challenge on the ID&P forum. Wish I'd had a brighter yellow and an orange as well as a violet... (more colors needed I see)... but over all I'm not too disappointed with my first attempt at pastels.

The kids had fun drawing faces today... we did different faces angry, happy, sad, sleepy, sick... then we added hair and bodies and feet and arms. The older kids really got creative, it was fun to see what they came up with... way beyond what I showed them how to do... I liked that.
Hockey game tonight, Rays won 4 to 1 against Greenville.

Getting ready to watch the CNN debate on TV... even though this debate is being held walking distance from my house. I don't have tickets for this one... so TV will have to do.

Got a new purse, this is the little gorilla that came on my new red bag.
The bag is a rather boring oblong, but the little gorilla is quite cute I think.
My thoughts and prayers to the families of the people that died in the grounding of that Italian ship... such a shame.

The debate was very exciting to attend, I've never been to a Presidential debate before.. I'm so glad we got the opportunity to go to this one. Lots of high emotions and passionate people in the audience made the atmosphere electric... I will watch debates from now on with new eyes.

Spent a lazy Sunday reading a book while Ron was at his long range shooting class. Tomorrow we're headed to Myrtle Beach to attend the debate being shown on Fox News.

I did not attend the Huckabee show today... no desire to be on TV as someone who can't decide who to vote for... I've decided and I'll be voting for Newt next Saturday.

Debra has this huge stuffed dragon on her desk so today I took picture of it, and then did this drawing from the photo.

Went to a townhall meeting for Rick Santorum tonight. He is an impressive speaker, and gave a rousing speech as well as fielding questions from the audience. I admire Senator Santorum and predict he will do VERY well in SC...how well? We'll find out about 9 days from now.

Ron and I went out to Lincolnville, to hear J.C. Watts speak at the Church of Christ there. He is a powerful speaker and a serious man of faith. He talked about Pride, turning the other cheek and forgiveness... he encouraged everyone to prayerfully consider their vote for President, but also told us that the solutions to what is wrong in America must be solved by us, not by politicians in DC.

Well Mitt wins in NH, no surprise there... Ron Paul Second... WOW that's a surprise to me, as is Huntsman in third place... Rick Santorum and Newt virtually tied... THAT does not surprise me, as those two men attract the same people, I know I have a lot of liked minded friends evenly divided between Newt and Rick... and I personally like them both... My crystal ball is cloudy... I haven't got a CLUE who will take SC, time will tell.

Ron and I are passing this cold back and forth to each other... I have always loved Luden's cherry cough drops, and now they come Sugar Free so I can have them again.

Gorgeous day today here in Charleston, it's still in the upper 60s well after the sun went down. Days like this spoil me and make me hate the cold days even more.

Yellow Rose Painting

Finished this yesterday, just need to figure out where to sign it.  It's 11x14 on 300 lbs paper... loosely based on this photo which I am so glad I got permission to give it a try. www.flickr.com/photos/kookie895/6491327643/in/photostream

I forget where I heard or saw this little saying... but I wrote it down on a slip of paper that I came across as I cleaned out my purse today...  so thought I'd share it today... all us 'difficult' ladies now have a 'reason' for being that way :-)
Got a couple of brushes and some paper and something totally new to play with some Pan Pastels... See the next page...

got the 20 color landscape set and the 10 color seascape set. Since buying the sets is SO much cheaper than buying the colors individually..I didn't mind that these two set have 5 duplicate colors. I've watched some you tube videos... so I'm ready to dive in right? Anybody tried these things? Any advise.

The Goose Creek 9-12 meeting tonight went well we had people from the different campaigns speak to us and answer questions tonight.  They all did a great job, Jeff Reuer asked the stump the panel question... he asked one NOBODY could answer.

I do not like being COLD, I do not like it being dark at 5pm. I do not like wearing so many layers of clothes that people think I've gained 20 pounds. I do not like to breath cold air, it makes my nose and my lungs hurt, I do not like my feet being cold... Sorry for the rant... did I mention I HATE winter?

I'm pretty sure my dogs are spoiled rotten, proof of that is the abundance of dog toys laying about on the floor that I have not yet drawn in my journals... for example this duck not actually on the floor lounging on his back in Beau's dog bed... wing casually tossed on the side.
The quote is from one of my favorite authors when I was a teenager, Douglas Adams, author of "The hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe"... a classic that I read over and over as a kid.

Fewer resolutions this year, I didn't keep the one to 'get organized', I'm still hopelessly disorganized... I did lose weight this year, even though I didn't have that as a resolution last year... this year I want to NOT gain it back...

Thought I'd try a photo of my last rosebud, I cut it to draw it and thus save it... cold weather headed our way would have killed it before it bloomed anyway. I do love these yellow/red hybrid roses.

This is a new sketchbook for me, a bigger size than I usually use it is 6x9 and doesn't quite fit on my scanner, so I'll have to adjust just a little to avoid having picture cut off. It is a Fabriano Journal like the one Danny Gregory used in his 'Breakfast' video... so of course I had to have one for myself :-)
