Day 2 - Kalamata Harbor, Greece

On an imaginary trip to Greece, today we went sailing off Kalamata Harbor. The trip is imaginary, the harbor is real and can be found on NOAA nautical chart #54301. My user name here is Capt. Elaine, not many people know that, the title is for a USCG OUPV 6 pack license. That means I can captain a boat that carries 6 paying passengers. So planning voyages and plotting courses on nautical charts is something I'm very familiar with. I thought it would be fun to find the chart for the harbor and include it on my page.

  1. This is lovely. I really like the chart that you included. Hope you will be able to post it to the Class. Interesting occupation you have. How fascinating. Do you ply the waters of the Charleston Harbor and the Atlantic?

  2. Thanks Clare, sorry for the confusion, boat Capt is not my profession... computer programing pays the bills, boating is one of my many hobbies. Getting the license, was a requirement for retirement plans my husband and I have :-)

  4. Thanks for dropping in Timaree... this imaginary trip is my first... and a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Laure does such a great job on these trips. I'm not as adventurous as some of my fellow travelers... but that ok, I'll be braver on the next trip :-)

  5. I really love the chart added to your work. I think it adds to the "on holiday" feel of the piece. I am thinking on this ITTG already that I need to work in a larger book as I am unable to put all the info that I want onto one small page, (like your added chart). I notice on you page that you have the link to tangle patterns. Are you into Zentangle? In Feb this year I became a CZT I am soooo addicted.

  6. Liane, I dabble with Zentangle. I keep a sketchbook just for them, and I really enjoy them. I've even taught a few of them to the kids in my art class, they love doing them.

As Winna says, your rocks rock!! Absolutely love the play of colors you have going on in there as well as the blues in the water. (Indanthrene blue?) Good job on creating the movement of the water and building in the depth of the image. I think the nautical maps add an absolutely wonderful element to this!

A BIG SHOUT out to Elaine as well for reaching out to the web site administrators to be certain that she wasn't copyright infringing by using the maps.

Elaine, I have no suggestions for improvements on this one. I think your love of water and nautical is very evident—beautifully done!
