We can thank the decline of the dollar, in part on Lyndon Johnson, during his term as President in 1965 our US coins became (in my Grandmother's opinion) worthless JUNK!... Before 1965 you could MELT a silver dollar, divide the silver into 4 equal amounts, and produce 4 quarters... WORTH a dollar. The insolvency of the Social Security System today, started when LBJ robbed the money to spend on his 'Great Society'..
I don't know what happened to my Grandmother's stash of 'REAL' money... I bet it's worth a lot today... if whoever, in the family got it, saved it instead of spending it.
