Signs of Spring in our yard today, the resident Mockingbird was trying to drive the  cardinals away, and he did appear successful in distracting the male, but the female remained pecking about under the Sugar Maple tree unimpressed with the fight going on over her head in the tree.

    1. It's a female cardinal… mocking birds are grey with white feathers on their wings. I guess my words on the page are confusing.

  2. After 60 years in Miami been here in Greensboro just 7 weeks. Squirrels are out and about and flock of robin red breast and a woodpecker that sounds like an entire construction crew. Some things springing up too. Don't know what they are yet put look like things from bulbs flowers. There are sprouts on the trees . Seems a whole adventure about to erupt quite different from palm trees.

  3. Wow BIG difference between Greensboro and Miami…. you'll actually experience seasons now. Spring is erupting around here in Charleston SC more signs every day.

  4. We have had nesting pairs of Western Mockingbirds the last few years. Their antics are lively. Even though they divebomb me at times, I still love them. Haven't seen them yet this season, though. Like the sketch. It's good to sketch with the season changes to keep a record of such things. My grandpa Herrmann would make notes in his pocket seed notebook of such things. I like the sketches with it. (It's been a long time since I've been on you blog. Glad to see you still at it!)
