The ice will be dyed 'PINK' tonight, and the players will wear Pink Jersey's that will be auctioned off after the game. I got one last year. I spent a bit of time today at the website of an incredible artist named Anne Watkins... www.annewatkins.com check out her work... in my clumsy way I tried to do the hockey player like she might have.

Blooming Trees
Spring trees are blooming, I noticed some around Park Circle today on my way home from work on the scooter... This painting was part of a lesson on my Bob Davies DVD's

It was a beautiful day today, the birds were fighting over territory and fussing at each other. It is supposed to rain tomorrow, and 'SNOW' on Sunday... I'll believe that when I see it... stay tuned.

I was really unfocused today... in spite of the owl LOL... I wanted to draw a puppy... I tried several... didn't work... the flowers turned out even worse... oh well, it is, what it is... I guess I'll go work on another painting... then again, maybe I should leave it alone.

I've already removed the tiny brush, and added 4 more half pans from my old box... now this tiny box has 12 colors in it... I added Cerlean Blue, Sap Green, Burnt Umber, Hookers Green... I know 3 greens is too much, I think I'll add another yellow and/or some Raw Sienna, maybe drop the black and add a violet... it's so hard to decide LOL Time to go throw a little paint on some paper :-)

Thought I'd try the latest EDM challenge, a sea shell. The shell is actually on my bathroom vanity, not the beach... so a bit of artistic license here :-)

The landscapers at my office planted Pansies, grouped by color, yellow, white, and these incredible deep purple ones with yellow centers... I had to try to draw/paint one.
Dixie Puppies 10 days old
Ten days old, they look like little pot bellied pigs not puppies. Maybe I'm just used to how little JRT puppies look, these guys are growing DAILY!

Didn't have the recommended reds, so after testing my reds, I chose Quin. Red called Cherry Red by Holbein and Permanent Rose by Windsor Newton and used those two colors for the tulips.

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG
"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.
"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.
"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.
"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."

Don't know what got me thinking about my grand-mother, and how my cousins and I would play 'horse' at her house, she kept a collection of old brooms just for us, and we'd play for hours on end with them. Do children do that sort of thing anymore? I don't think they do.

What's your word?
Your Word is "Peace" |
You see life as precious, and you wish everyone was safe, happy, and taken care of. Social justice, human rights, and peace for all nations are all important to you. While you can't stop war, you try to be as calm and compassionate as possible in your everyday life. You promote harmony and cooperation. You're always willing to meet someone a little more than halfway. |

This one is a tad better, but leaves disconnected from stems are a bit odd looking... I'm going to add more darks to this one... and see what happens.

This is the frustrated painter slinging paint on the paper, the big splats were added once I changed brushes.
Lessons I learned today.... Starting my negative painting.
1. Squirrel Mop brushes do NOT drip on their own no matter how much paint and water you add...
2. Tapping a Mop brush to MAKE it drip, gets a tiny drip ARGH
3. Slinging the mop brush at the paper gives you LOTS of tiny splats... totally unacceptable for the lesson we're doing but interesting looking (pictures when it dries).
4. A much SMALLER, synthetic brush (size 10) will drip quite nicely even with just a small amount of paint...
So to save paint and frustration... if you haven't started this yet... DO NOT use a mop brush, and propably not a good sable either... a brush that holds a LOT of paint... doesn't 'drip' very well... use a nylon brush for much better results... splat wise....
So that's what I learned today

This is not the first time I've drawn the green dragon glass bead that sits on my desk, he has a fierce mean expression on his face... I almost captured that face today.

I did a lot of sketches of Betty today, while lying in bed watching this old movie. I think it was easier because it was in black and white... Some of the sketches look like her a little I think.

So I looked up this negative painting thing today, there's even a book about it. 'Painting outside the lines' I think is the name... I'm cutting myself off from buying anymore books until I've worked thru the ones I have... so WetCanvas's Watercolor challenge for February is..."negative painting"... I plan to participate by doing a bigger one of these... but I'm pretty pleased with this one in my journal.

The Thing-a-day site suggested 'clocks' for week one... so feeling very uninspired today I drew the clock in the computer room that Ron Jr. gave us for Christmas this year. It's a really cool clock, shows the temp, the weather etc.
