Since I drew a full grown pine tree just a week ago, I chose a LongLeaf pine seedling.. for the EDiM #5... they are unique and interesting trees and endangered these days. There is a planted stand of them in the Francis Marion National Forest called the Lorax Forest as the foundation Dr. Seuss created funded the planing of the trees back in the 1990's... thanks to them the trees thrive again in the forest.
Location of the Lorax forest near my home. My husband and I often take our Jeep into the forest and enjoy the swamps where the swamp fox hid to pester the British during the Revolutionary War.
The Long Leaf pines, which used to cover 70 million acres of Southern forest, now exist in only 4 million acres.
