MarshSunset0928
Sometimes things just don't work out. I have a book called 'Painting Water', I tried to use his technique of doing a sunset over water... well his technique is too advanced for me...man did this turned out awful or what... I'm going to try again a little later.
Sept28Art
Spent the whole morning re-arranging 'stuff' in my den/studio, so that I could set up a glass cutting table... took a little break to draw Lola's sailboat... now I think I'll go try a little painting.

Sept27Art
Practicing boats and my carrot people... I need a steadier hand for my rigging lines... Ron is home from his class... so we're off to dinner soon.
RedDinghy0927
9x12 140lbs Arches WC Block, using Frank Clarke video as reference. It's official... I do not like the goat hair brushes, for washes I prefer my squirrel hair mop, and nothing beats my Kalish sables... I'll keep these goat hairs... but don't see myself using them much.

I wrote a long winded diatribe on politics... you'll be happy to know I erased it all and drew this doodle instead. Off to do a little painting now...

Beachwalk0925
Took longer to get the scanner to stop cutting off my sky, than it did to paint this little picture. I love the ocean, and the beach...

Sept25Art
Cold and rainy day, didn't ride my scooter to work today. Migrating birds today filled the power lines, looked like a scene from a Hitchcock movie 'The Birds'..

Sunset-over-the-ocean
I'm not happy with my ocean colors, or the sky... I'll try this one again. I did use my new brushes... learning curve needed there... they are MUCH stiffer than my sable and squirrel brushes, which may be better suited to 'water' work than these goat hair one.... but it's the first time I've tried them.
Sept24Art
I can't believe how cold it is already... very unusual for Charleston to be this cool this soon. Big, very Big black birds soaring on the wind during my walk today... the flight feathers on the tips of the wings were spread out like fingers... very cool to watch them.

Well I goofed and got the ribbon in the scan... oh well, I'm wanting to get to cleaning my new brushes and trying out a painting... and it's getting late.

Sept22Art
I so admire people that keep travel journals... drawing... writing in the journal while riding in the car is darn near impossible for me... It's good to be home again... hopefully I'll get some painting done this week using my new brushes.

Rocks-and-Water-0917
I learned a lot doing this little painting. The exercise was to do water and rocks... I started this last night, but didn't give myself enough time, or paint... I ran out of blue... note to self, when doing lots of water and sky put out a generous dollop of blue. I also learned that Naples Yellow is NOT a good sand color... All in all not too bad for a little 5x7 painting.
Sept17Art
Don't know why... found myself drawing circles today... lots of circles... and a few pointy things... Leaving for Va tomorrow morning ... won't be on-line again until Sunday night... CYA

I ordered a couple more tubes of paint, and some masking fluid from Cheap Joe today. Got in touch with Elizabeth, lady I met at the Tony Van Hasselt workshop... it was good to talk to her... hopefully we'll be able to get together to paint some.

Paying taxes... always a bad day when that happens...
Off to paint a little and see if that improves my mood :-)

Jewelry-in-Kiln
This is some of the jewelry pieces that I made today, in the kiln waiting to be fused. Please note the tree upper right. There will be Journal pages posted later... Scanner not working.
CandyDish-in-Kiln
This is the candy dish, I assembled yesterday, fused this morning and will slump into a candy dish tonight. I really like how this turned out.
Finished glass
Here's all my finished pieces that I made this week, except for my night light which wasn't in the room.
JohnCampbellFolkSchool
Enameling and Pottery classes were going on in this building. The painting studio is a lovely new modern building... not nearly as photogenic as these buildings.
JohnCampbellFolkSchool2
ome of the quaint classroom buildings at John Campbell Folk school in Brasstown, that my daughter and I visited Wednesday afternoon

Sorry for my fans, no Journal page today, probably won't get to post them until Saturday. The printer/scanner refuses to work because it has an empty ink cartridge... the fact that scanning requires no ink... does not compute for this stupid machine.... oh well... my camera works still... Here's a few of the 50 pictures I took Wednesday.
One horse proved to be a ham for the camera, the other two were too busy eating.

Sept09Art
Long day today.... I brought my easel, my paints... tons of stuff... but I've been too pooped from 8 hours of class every day to do much except my journal. Bought some great rocks tonight at the auction, hoping to take a Cabochon class next year and use the rocks I just bought.

Tree0905
Another day, another tree... Drawing the trunk and branches first and then adding the leaves is proving to be a challenge for me.
Spent most of my time this evening trying to get my new plastic palette to make a puddle... I'm starting to HATE plastic palettes... but I can't lug my porcelain plate into the field... it's too heavy and I don't want to break it ... ARGH
Sept05Art
Got myself a couple of new brushes and a new wire bound Sketch book. I go thru them pretty quickly. Raining hard now, from Hanna's bands... think I'll go paint while we still have electricity for lights... WHOOPS there went the Satellite TV... must be raining harder.

Tree0904
Trees 9/4/2008 using Terry Harrison's 'Watercolour Trees' book, I LOVE how these turned out... now if only I knew how to do sand and the ocean :-)
Sept04Art
Been a long trying day, when nothing seemed to go right... except my dealing with Cheap Joe's... what a pleasure to deal with a company like that. To top it off my scanner went on the fritz so I'm using my husband... he loaned it to me.

Warning! Angry GRIPE follows....
Site number 1 started by artist Bob Davies http://www.idrawandpaint.com
Site number 2 started by artist Frank Clarke http://www.simplypainting.com
Both sites use the same software... some people think this mean Frank copied Bob... FOLKS it's the forum software they are using... people who start forums select the software they like... for my Jeep forum I chose software similar to WetCanvas (PHPBB2) I didn't COPY WetCanvas.. I used the same software to create my forum... that's all, no BIG DEAL.
Some people on both sites are complaining about what's going on on the other one... well DUH????
In the glass artist world, the 2 big dogs are Lampworketc and WetCanvas... they complain about each other all the time... and yes a lot of people are members of both... SO WHAT?
My final comment was... it is just paint on paper get over it!!!
Now my final comment is... want to make ME angry? delete my forum posts.. want to know what I think... check here.

Getting ready to head to the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in Young Harris, Ga next week, now Hannah is changing my plans... I'm thinking I'll head to Atlanta Friday and stay with friends and family... Ron will hold down the fort at home. This house survived Hugo, it should do fine for Hannah.

Sep01Art
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Hurricane Gus' path today, stay safe.
Wet Canvas challenge for September is exactly what I need... work on Trees... I'll never be able to do a good landscape if I can't paint a decent tree... so every day a tree this month...
Tree 09 01 2008
Watercolor on 300lbs Rough 7x10 Block, using Frank Clarke's video tutorial on Boston Commons. Trees are horrid, as is the shadow under the trees... I am pleased with the people, and the pond...
