Gracie has been at my side for the last two days, she seems to know I don't feel good. Only seemed fitting to sketch my little dog while she napped this afternoon.

 Sad to hear this morning about the passing of Leonard Nimoy. I will always remember him as Spock. In spite of good pain drugs my hand hurt all day long. Changed the bandage tonight and Ron snapped a photo. This looks better than it did yesterday…but still pretty ugly.

Well I spent a very long day at the doctors office, getting skin cancer removed from my hand. It is still numb from the shots they gave me to do the surgery. Based on the way it looked before they bandaged it, it is going to hurt a lot very soon. The cancer is all gone, so for that I am grateful.

The Fifth Dimension song was a favorite of mine… lo those many years ago.  For some reason it was bouncing around in my head tonight.  So a few balloons done in colored pencil.  Bad weather continues, it is pouring down rain and cold now yuk.

Rainy cold day, some freezing drizzle, but nothing of any consequence.  I planted a Carolina Jessamine, last Summer, it is covered in blooms now, I hope this cold snap doesn't kill them.  Come on Spring, I'm really tired of Winter.

Got Danny Gregory's book "Art before Breakfast" today, managed to read a few pages, and I particularly liked the little 'a' art.  Capital 'A' art hangs in museums and is sold in auctions, little 'a' art is a totally different animal… TOTALLY.

We went to the Citadel for dinner, where our Senator Tim Scott spoke, along with Donald Trump and Senator Rick Santorum.  We had fun and the speeches were  interesting.  The dinner was a fund raiser for the young men to take a trip to the CPAC convention in March.  I do believe they raised quite a bit of money tonight for the trip.

Ron and I had looked at these 'smart' watches before Christmas, but nobody had any available.  Since then we've checked from time to time to see if they were in stock, today we scored Ron got a black one, mine is white.  It is a way cool gadget that I can text on, send and receive phone calls, and it tells time and has my calendar of meetings on it.  Met our friends Dave and Laura for dinner before the hockey game tonight, exciting game for 'Pink in the Rink' to benefit Breast Cancer patients.

Very cold today here in Charleston, not at all what we're used to around here.  Got the idea for this from the book 'Sketch' by France Belleville-Van Stone which I finished reading today.  Good book that I actually read instead of just looking at the pictures.

Tamiflu is a remarkable drug, I'm not 100% yet but I'm pretty close, no fever, no headaches, still congested and coughing but that's it.  Going to be REALLY COLD tonight, down to 16 some weather men say, others are optimistic and think it'll only be down to 20, either one is way too cold for this Southern girl.

Found these stamps online, fingering stamps for flute and clarinet.  I like it, and it will allow me work on my fingering.  I can read music and play the piano, but translating that note to different positions is a real learning curve for me, especially the step from B to D.  The congestion from the flute has made it impossible to practice, but I can practice my fingering.

Spent the day in bed, the post brought a box from Goulet Pens, with the ink I ordered.  I loaded my blue Lamy with the Turquoise ink, I think I like the color very much.

Time to go to the Dr… I'm running a fever so maybe this is the flu catching up to me finally. I have the Flu type A,  spent way too much time chasing down the drugs I needed.  My local pharmacy was out, the 24-hour folks said they'd be a 2 hour wait, so we came back home and I went back at 9pm, and guess what, it wasn't ready.  How hard is it to count pills and put them in a bottle… I mean seriously.

Went to the hockey game in spite of feeling poorly, it was a good game, Rays won it 3 to 2, that's six wins in a row for them. Still it may be too late for them, not many games left in the season and so far they aren't qualified for the playoffs.  I'm glad I have the day off tomorrow, maybe I can kick this cold with some rest and vitamin C.

I made Ron a Valentine's Day card, he let me sleep late and made me breakfast… perfect presents. True love isn't measured in the presents you give, instead it is the small acts of kindness and forgiveness that happen every day.  Telling the people you love that you love them by treating them like you love them, and saying it everyday.

Friday the 13th, whose superstitious? Sometimes I think I believe in 'karma', but I don't think I'm superstitious per se.  I was going to draw my breakfast but grits and a cup of coffee isn't very interesting, and I'm not a morning person anymore. I was when I was young, a morning person that is, but the older I get the longer I'm willing to sleep in the morning. Thought I'd do the 3 color - color wheel using my inktense pencils.  I just love how vibrant the colors are with these pencils.

I scored some DeAtramentis ink today, got a bottle of black and turquoise, believe it or not I don't have any blue ink, and since blue is one of my favorite colors I thought I'd try some for fun.  Everyone the world over raves about this ink, and we here in the USA haven't been able to get any of it for quite a long time.  Goulet pens sells out within minutes of getting some in the store.  This time they gave us the time the ink would go on sale, so that everyone could queue up at the same time. I'll let you know if it lives up to the hype.

I loved the original Geico ad with the camel walking thru the office saying 'What day is it?'…. 'Mike, mike, Mike, Mike'.  Now they have another clever ad with two camels in the zoo, with the human visitors shouting to the camels,  the poor camel says to his buddy, 'It's not even Wednesday'… and his buddy says 'Let it go Phil, Let it go.'  Hope everyone is having a great HUMP day, down hill to the weekend.

I ordered a Franklin-Christoph fountain pen with a 3 tine Music nib.  The pens and nibs are made in North Carolina, the workmanship is evident in the smooth way the pen moves across the paper.  It is going to be a pleasure to use on my music, the 1.9 mm nib flexs some but mostly it's claim to fame is how wet and juicy it writes making filling in notes a breeze.  Right now I have some gray Pilot Ink in it,    may have to find just the right black ink for it, won't need it waterproof, just something that won't clog up this beauty.

I'm a Parrothead from way back, I just love beach music.  'Knee deep' is a really cute beach song, that is a new one for Jimmie Buffett and Zac Brown.  To illustrate the song I drew my feet underwater.  I wish I'd had time to go to the beach today, but with work, flute lesson and executive committee meeting, there just wasn't time to run out to the beach, but these are my bare feet drawn from life in my watercolor Moleskine sketchbook.

Gorgeous day in Charleston today, 70 degrees, sunny… perfect.  Hockey game today completed the perfect day, Rays won 6 to 3 against the Gwinette Gladiators and last night they beat the Greenville team 7 to 1.

More colorful letters, this time the rainbow.  Just a gorgeous day today, we didn't do much, because Ron is nursing a cold and I'm beginning to think I'm catching it too. So an easy page, using my colored markers.

Creative lettering and a quote from one of my favorite cartoonist, illustrators Quentin Blake.  Did a lot of short flute practice sessions today, had trouble again making a sound.  Sometimes I think I've got it, and then I have a bad session, but just like my bad drawings, I just do it some more.  Persistence does pay off, you just have to not give up.

Tried out my pitt markers on Inky's big green eyes.  I think I almost got the color right, she has the most incredible beautiful eyes. Mixed bag of weather today, cold rain this morning, around noon the clouds blew out and revealed blue sky and sunshine.

I have this little stuffed Elephant that perches on top of my Mac Monitor, his belly is a screen polishing cloth. He is useful and fun and sometimes I like to draw him up on his high perch.

Another John Muir Laws inspired colored pencil exercise, a color wheel using just three colored pencils.  The green, orange and purple you see were achieved with one layer each of the adjacent colors.

Feb02Art - Ground Hog Day

Goal this week on the flute 3 more notes, soon I'll have a full scale.  Used my colored pencils on this, inspired by a John Muir Laws video I watched this weekend.  I still think I prefer watercolor, it is fast and easy, pencils take a lot of time and patience.

Saw this on facebook, thought it was too good not to add it to my sketchbook. I had written down the forecast at 66 this morning, had to change it to 70 because that's what the actual high was today.  Not bad for February the first, I love South Carolina.
