Happy Halloween everyone... hope it was treats and not tricks at your house tonight.

It was so great to see some of the women I met this Summer on the Women's Freedom Ride.  We chose our charity for next Summer's ride, sponsoring a Golden Retriever service dog for a female veteran.  Our goal is to cover the cost involved including training the dog and the veteran who will get the dog.  Ron came up on Friday after getting Dixie squared away. She is going to be fine, on antibiotics and appears to be healing well.  Thanks for everyone who was concerned about her.

This duffle bag isn't water resistant, so all my clothes are vacuum packed (love my food saver machine). We might run into rain on Thursday, but the rest of the weekend the forecast is for warm, sunny days. This bag goes on the luggage rack, inside the trunk the important stuff, my iPad, my journals, spare boots, maps, my knitting.   WFR = Women's Freedom Ride.

After hurricane Matthew the mosquitos have been brutal, I have bites on my ankles, legs, neck and places they could only have gotten while I was sleeping. They are eating Ron alive too,  I'd have thought with the Zika virus the county would have been spraying for them.  Wish I had a bat box, bats eat mosquitos, I need about a dozen bats just for my yard.

We did the Scooters for Hooters ride today, turn out was great this year.  Weather was gorgeous today, a little cool but very pleasant.  We met up with the other Submariners on the ride and had fun getting lost LOL.  We had to stop a little early so that I could get me motorcycle into the Harley Shop before they closed.  It's due for it's 15,000 mile check up and I wanted to be sure to get it done before our trip to the mountains this coming week.

Took a little ride to Mount Pleasant to meet Ron's fellow Submarine Vets for lunch, lots of fun, great guys swapping sea stories.
This evening opening night Hockey, Greenville Swamp Rabbits won in Overtime, but a good game.  We have a good group of players back from last year in addition to some new talent and a new coach.  Our coach moved up to the next higher league, and we found out last night that our coach from a few years ago is now coaching in the NHL,  Jared Bednar is coaching the Colorado Avalanche now,  we're so proud when one of our guys makes it to the bigs.

Colors, thinking about colors and doing a color wheel, instead I drew my current palette colors.  Thinking I may reduce the size of the cobalt teal to a half pan and and sap green... need to think about it though, as I prefer the full pans.

My MOO mini cards,  you can have your own artwork or photos turned into mini business cards, regular business cards, square cards.  Someone at the Marc Taro Holmes workshop in Savannah gave me his square card with some of his artwork on it,  so I had to give it a try too.  I only did 8 designs, but you could load 100 different ones and each card would be unique.  Check them out at https://www.moo.com

We rode down highway 17 to 'point south' and had lunch at the Wendy's off I-95 there. Perfect weather today, not too hot, not too cold, JUST RIGHT.  I think I read somewhere this week that Winnie the Pooh was 90 years old... imagine that.

Hum, the thumb is not white, it has paint on it, wonder why the scanner did that?  Lots of fun today at the boat show, lovely wooden boats so well preserved and obviously loved by their owners.

Really chilly ride to work this morning, had 2 hours to try and remember where I packed away my long johns.  Did not find them yet...  Some funny eyes just because.

Haven't seen this cute commercial in a long time.  I still think of it every Wednesday, and from time to time I draw a camel to remember.  I started work on a rose painting today, got it drawn and a few petals have an initial wash.  I may have to pull out a Flamingo painting that's been languishing on my table for months since the colors are similar, pink rose, pink Flamingo.

Happy Birthday to the love of my life, my darling husband Ron. He got his big Orange bike back from the Harley shop today, so he had a happy birthday before he had to go to work.  Hockey coming soon, cooler weather is making riding a real pleasure these days.

Does anyone use these anymore?  This one is tiny, like only 1/2 an inch long, so I use it to clip chip bags closed.  I remember hanging laundry to dry as a kid, I kind of enjoyed the smell of sheets dried in the sun and fresh air.

Such a gorgeous day today, Ron and I picked up our motorcycles from Dave's house this morning.  After lunch with him, we took a little ride up to Awendaw SC,  roads mostly clear even though it was high tide.  Still lots of folks with no power so we're very lucky.

Matthew finally left the area around 5pm today,  most of the damage (tree limbs down mostly) happened this morning.  I slept thru the hurricane coming in last night, but was wide awake for the winds from the backside of the storm.  We lost power on and off several times this morning, and we heard transformer boxes going off, sounded like a shotgun blast.  We'll go pickup our motorcycles tomorrow, moved our cars back into our our driveway late this afternoon. The other side of our street has no trees, our yard has 2 big ones in front, so we parked our cars across the street between our neighbor's houses to keep them out of the wind and away from the trees.

Hurricane Matthew the day after

The trees actually lost all these branches today, AFTER the hurricane was well away from us.  It has stopped raining, but I'm afraid to let the dogs out in the yard for fear the falling branches will hurt them.

A bit of ponding in the backyard, it used to do this even more when there was a swamp behind our house, MUSC built a classroom building and parking lot where the swamp used to be so the ponding in our backyard isn't as bad as it once was.

Rain finally started very gently around noon today, rained hard around 5pm, but just steady rain with a little wind so far.  The eye of the hurricane is still off the coast of Florida, so we have more rain and wind to come as Matthew makes it's way toward us.

A friend of ours let us park our motorcycles in his garage for the storm, so we shuttled them up to Summerville today.  On the way back to the house we stopped off at Publix and picked up a few things and had 'breakfast' for dinner tonight.  We haven't done that in a long time, it was really good.

Still no rain or wind here, Boeing closed down, as did the State government office I work at, so vacation for us.  I worked on drawing a painting that I promised to try to do for a friend, I'm not particularly happy with it, but I'm going to ink it and paint it and let her decide whether it goes in the bin.  In my journal I did some value studies after watching Lesson 4 of Liz Steel's Buildings2016 online class where she talked about shadows vs cast shadows.  Marc Taro Holmes carries 24 half pans 3 values of each color family because he doesn't want to bother mixing colors. Liz carries fewer colors, but more than the 12 I've got in my box.  So I may be re-thinking my color palette yet again.

Remember the fairy tale about the little boy who cried 'Wolf'... I may be wrong, but is the SC governor crying 'WOLF'... I mean the hurricane is still around Cuba and they are already ordering evacuation TOMORROW, and closing the interstate.  Good grief does anyone beside me think it's just a tad early for PANIC mode?

Back to work Monday,  watching hurricane Matthew as it hits Haiti tonight and is headed for us either Friday or Saturday maybe.  Went to the grocery store to stock up on bread and milk, water in all the water jugs... ready we are.

Rode up to Myrtle Beach today for the Hurricane Alley Bike rally there.  It was delightful weather, cool in the morning... cool too on the way home.   Just Ron and I, didn't see anyone we knew except for some of the Charleston Harley Shop folks who were working at the Myrtle Beach store for the rally.  Saw this incredibly tall Pampas Grass around Georgetown, so I tried to remember it well enough to include it in my journal when I got home.  The wooden boat show will be in a couple of weeks and we're planning to go up to Georgetown for that.

Continuous line drawing of my little conch shell, someday, if I live long enough I'll finally be able to draw this thing and have it look ok, but not today.  We were headed to the NC mountains today, but only got as far as Orangeburg SC... had to cancel the reservation and return home.  Ron forgot his insulin and it was just too late in the day to go back home and make it to the motel before dark.  We'll take a ride up to Myrtle Beach tomorrow instead.
